Client's Vision:
Built in 1870 as the "Arabajyan" family school and under state protection, this historically significant building was given new life while respecting its heritage. Our goal was to preserve the traditional interior principles of Gyumri homes while introducing a modern touch.
Design Concept:
The building, though rich in history, was in poor condition and required more than just design updates—it needed a full reimagining to breathe new life into the space while respecting its heritage.
Our design concept focuses on preserving the essence of the building’s original elements, such as the floors, doors, and ceilings, while offering a fresh, contemporary interpretation. The color palette, inspired by the existing architectural hues, features a vibrant red floor balanced with light beige and green tones, creating a dynamic and harmonious atmosphere. Fabric lampshades evoke the warmth of traditional Gyumri lanterns, casting a welcoming glow throughout the space. Modern design touches, like iconic Alvar Aalto chairs, and a thoughtfully chosen console table from Rooms Studio, a Kelly Wearstler-inspired coffee table, complement the historical elements, seamlessly blending past and present. The concept envisions a space that honors its history while embracing the future of design.
